| Collingwood Council Notes |

| Mayor backs CAO |
| COLLINGWOOD - The town's chief administrative officer has
no intention of retiring. |
| So says Terry Geddes, as the mayor defended Carman Morrison
in the face of increasing rumours about an impending retirement. |
| "The CAO is not retiring," Geddes told
councillors. "We do value our CAO and he has no intention of
retiring." |
| Council moves to lower speed limits |
| Fed up with waiting for surrounding municipalities to put
in their two cents worth, Collingwood Council plans to limit the speed
along Highway 28 East by 10 kilometres per hour. |
| A petition came forward two years ago from residents in the
area, asking the municipality to reduce the speed to 70 KP/H between the municipal
boundary and Pilkington LOF Glass. The Ministry of Transportation
told Collingwood to send letters to neighbouring municipalities Clearview
Township and Wasaga Beach, requesting support for the change. On
Monday night, the man in charge of Collingwood's works department, Ed
Houghton, informed council those letters of support had not materialized. |
| Houghton said the MTO had advised Collingwood the municipality
could draft a letter to the province, advising it would reduce the speed limit.
Houghton said he expects the new speed limit to be posted by the end of
February. |
