| Feds kick in for housing registry |
| Enterprise-Bulletin (Tue, February 6, 2000) |
| COLLINGWOOD - The federal government has made a
contribution to the town's housing registry, kicking in $41,308 to help
establish the service. |
| Member of Parliament for Simcoe-Grey, Paul Bonwick,
recently made a presentation to council, presenting the cheque to council. |
| The Georgian Triangle Housing Registry Resource Centre will
complete an inventory of existing rental stock, identify the severity of
the situation in the Georgian Triangle area, compile data for presentation
to area municipalities and developers, maintain a database of housing and
related resources and establish a Housing Task Group. |
| "This project is critical to the area," Bonwick
said. "There is a definite need to look at the shortage of
rental housing in the community. Now is the time to take stock of
what is available and facilitate discussions about how best to tackle the
situation." |
| Collingwood has a 1.8 per cent vacancy rate, based on the
latest figures from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. |
| Other partners in the total $62,758 project are the United
Way, Simcoe County Alliance and Community Connection. |
