| COLLINGWOOD - The town will decide next week what it will
do with the proposed Human Resources position. |
| On Monday night, for the second meeting in a row, council
deferred a recommendation from CAO Carmon Morrison to advertise for the
position. A meeting will be held next week with the CAO, the mayor
and KPMG to discuss council's possible direction. |
| The hiring of an HR professional was a recommendation of
the organization review conducted by KPMG. |
| "We still remain committed to a human resources
component, it's just the direction on whether its a full-time position, a
contract position, or a consulting firm," said Councillor Chris
Carrier. |
| Carrier made the motion last week to defer a decision on
the recommendation until this Monday. Carrier said he wanted to hear
the opinions of the three councillors - Sandra Cooper, Rick Lloyd, and Joe
Gardhouse - who were unable to attend a meeting in December with KPMG. |
| "The human resources position is integral to a good
corporation and good morale," Carrier said, noting it would fulfill
council's responsibility to taxpayers and the municipal employees.
"I'm strongly in support of the human resources position - how it's
defined is what council has to work through." |
| Lloyd said the town has a 'shortfall' in the area of human
resources, adding he doesn't believe the town has to move right away to
fill the role. |
| "I don't see the reason to have a big push to do it
yesterday," Lloyd told the newspaper. "We need to do it
properly by taking our time, to make sure the office is set up
appropriately. |
| The councillor said he wasn't convinced the town needs to
fill a full-time position, but that the town did need "someone with
strong human resources abilities." |
| Mayor Terry Geddes acknowledged council was "looking
at different models for the position. |
| "We (council) have decided on a route, and we'll go to
KPMG to solidify the fact what we're doing is in the best interest (of
town employees and ratepayers)," the mayor said. |
