General committee also went along with a recommendation to hire a new information technology technician for town hall.

After the departure of Blair Almond last summer, Larry Irwin - who actually works for Collus - has been given the responsibility of keeping the town hall computer system running. In his report, Irwin noted the task of keeping the information infrastructure going at the municipal offices has also fallen to a "mix of contractors" along with Collus staff.

Irwin also pointed out it has "become abundantly clear" there is more-than-sufficient work load at town hall to keep a full-time staff person busy.

However, a new IT person would not be responsible for updating the town's Internet site. Irwin said he should be able to report back to council in the next couple of weeks the status of that particular role.
