| Winter festival goes ahead |
| By Morgan Ian Adams |

| COLLINGWOOD - The town has committed $5,000 in cash and
in-kind funding for a winter carnival in February. |
| On Monday night, council's general committee recommended
accepting a staff report on the festival - a joint effort of the town,
Downtown Collingwood, the chamber of commerce and several area businesses. |
| The only concern about the event was raised by Councillor
Chris Carrier, who expressed apprehension about the town being exposed to
any liability because of a couple of events. |
| Carrier was concerned with both the snow mobile
demonstration, and the beer garden being held in the parking lot beside
the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena. |
| He questioned CAO Carman Morrison if the chief
administrative officer felt it was a reasonable risk. Morrison
responded in the affirmative. |
| "We're involved in a number of these events, and with
these events comes risk," Morrison said. |
| Among the activities for the Feb. 10 Winter Carnival are:
pancake breakfast, road hockey tournament, bob sled races, bed races, snow
pitch baseball, snow sculptures, public skating and a street dance. |
