BLOOMS COMMITTEE TO PLANT NEW SEED IN COMMUNITY ROOTS
Meaford, Ontario
Communities in Blooms for the Municipality of Meaford and the Town of the Blue Mountains are excited to announce the first annual “Garden Gala” fund raiser to be held Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Arena.
Already the winner of the “National Award” for their population category in 2000, Meaford has now “Twinned” with the Town of the Blue Mountains with the goal of competing at the next level….The “Canadian Classic,” a category in which past winners are twinned with municipalities that have never participated in the Communities in Bloom challenge.  Meaford will mentor the Town of the Blue Mountains which will improve the appearance of both towns and will give Meaford the entry prerequisites required to reach the next plateau.
Over the past year while preparing to produce the 2002 “Get Growing” Garden & Home Show, Karen Cox, President of Shallow Brook Productions approached Liz Francis with the idea of a fund raiser for “Communities in Bloom.”  Liz, along with her fellow committee members were quick to take advantage of this offer by Shallow Brook Productions to combine a fund raising event in conjunction with the very popular “Get Growing” Garden Show.
Liz Houghton who has taken on the role of co-chair for the “Garden Gala” says “this is a great opportunity for people to come together to support the “Communities in Bloom” efforts.”  She went on to explain “The money raised goes back into the communities and helps beautify the area.”
The “Garden Gala” will take place from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Arena. Tickets can be purchased from Lin’s Pharmacy, Bardeau’s Emporium, Muxlow's Pharmacy and Grandma Lambe’s in Meaford. Tigs, The Co-op, Brownies Variety and Riverside Graphics in the Town of the Blue Mountains. The cost of the tickets are $10.00 each with the proceeds going to “Communities in Blooms.”
