Ontario Provincial Police - Witnesses sought in fatal accident at Ski Club
TOWN OF THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON, March 2 /CNW/ - Moira Caswell, 66, of
Toronto suffered fatal injuries in an accident at Craigleith Ski Club shortly
before 10:00 a.m., Sunday March 2nd.
Ms Caswell was skiing with her daughter when the accident occurred. The
two women were skiing on a trail crossing a ski run to reach a chair lift. A
"snow cat" groomer was operating in the area building a trench for a
children's ski event. The victim fell into the trench and was struck when the
groomer backed up. The victim's daughter tried to alert the groomer operator
but it was too late.
Ms Caswell was immediately attended by the ski patrol and removed to an
ambulance and transported to hospital in Collingwood where she was pronounced
dead a short time later.
The accident is under investigation by Coroner Dr Donald Smith of
Collingwood, The Ministry of Labour, Collingwood/Blue Mountains OPP Criminal
Investigation Unit and the OPP Central Region Forensic Identification Unit. A
post mortem examination has been ordered for tomorrow at Royal Victoria
Hospital in Barrie.
Collingwood/Blue Mountains OPP is seeking witnesses to the accident.
