MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON, March 31 /CNW
The OPP have increased the reward offer to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of a Collingwood man in August 2002.
The reward is part of the ongoing investigation by the Oneida Nation of the Thames Police Service, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police, Criminal Investigation Branch
William (Bill) Gordon McMillan, 38, was last seen by friends Aug. 16, 2002 at the Oneida Nation of the Thames, where he had travelled to retrieve a 1992 Saturn belonging to him. While he was attempting to start the vehicle, an altercation took place involving several unknown individuals. Witnesses fled the scene and reported hearing gun shots as they ran.
Two vehicles belonging to the deceased were found burned just outside the Oneida Nation of the Thames on Aug. 18, 2002. They had been last seen on Oneida. McMillan's dismembered body was found, almost two months later, in the Lambton Shores area.
On Oct. 13, 2002 a blue and white IGLOO cooler (Model Cool 58) containing the human remains of William McMillan was found at the former CFB Ipperwash. The investigation revealed that the cooler was purchased from a large retail outlet store. The unique cooler was special order, only manufactured for this company.
The investigation surrounding the Coolers purchases has resulted in coolers being traced throughout North America and as far away as Nicaragua and Portugal.
To date, approximately. 95 per cent of the 982 that were produced have been traced. Investigators are continuing to examine coolers, as they are located.
Oneida Nation of the Thames Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police are requesting assistance in identifying any information related to this IGLOO Cooler and its connection to the disposal of the body of William McMillan.
An investigation Hot Line is still operating and anyone with information is asked to call 1-888-415-2056. As well, the public can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
