Ontario Loses 1,048 Jobs per day in January
ALLISTON
Feb 10, 2006 - Upon the release of the latest Statistics
Canada job numbers this morning which showed another massive decline
in Ontario manufacturing jobs for January 2006, Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim
Wilson is calling upon the McGuinty government to wake-up and get a
plan in place for Ontario's economy.
The provincial manufacturing sector has been reeling since Dalton
McGuinty and his Liberals took office in 2003 but not more so than
in the past year. Since January of 2005, Ontario has lost 80,200
manufacturing jobs including a staggering 32,500 in the past month.
That's 1,048 jobs lost per day in January. The decline was
concentrated in furniture and related products as well as in motor
vehicles and parts.
"It's families that are hardest hit by these job losses," said
Wilson. "Ontarians deserve a government and a Premier that shows
compassion and the leadership to take action. Mr. McGuinty's
thoughtless tinkering and band-aid solutions should be replaced by
thoughtful and practical solutions to repair a problem that is
quickly becoming out of control," explained the veteran local MPP.
Wison joined PC Leader John Tory in Simcoe-Grey on January 23 to
listen to concerns from local labour leaders, municipal officials
and businesses on the mounting job losses. Wilson and Tory will be
raising those concerns with the McGuinty government when the Ontario
Legislature resumes on Monday February 13, 2006.
