Development control in
Collingwood
1 September 2007Collingwood
may soon have more control over what development comes to town.
If Simcoe County council agrees,
Collingwood would take charge of approving development proposals.
Those decisions are currently up to the
County.
Director of Planning, Gord Russell, says
the County has apparently said it would approve this request.
Russell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News
this means public meetings and their review would be done by Collingwood
Council.
He adds developments would be approved
faster so more can can be accepted in shorter period of time.
More new projects mean more development
fees and less burden on taxpayers.
There's no word on when Simcoe County
will make a decision on transferring control to Collingwood.
The only other area municipality to have
this jurisdiction is Clearview Township. |
