Fifth teen dies from injuries in Meaford
crash
23 January 2007
A fifth teenager has died from injuries suffered in a horrific car crash near
Meaford, Ont. that killed four of his friends.
Ontario Provincial Police said 17-year-old Michael O'Hara, the driver of the
SUV, died at Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital Monday night.
O'Hara had been in critical condition since the SUV he was driving crossed the
centre line of Highway 26 and was struck by a cargo van.
Funeral services for Drew Perry, Morgan Fitzgerald and Andrew McKean will be
held today, while a service for Michael Fleming is set for tomorrow.
Grief counsellors were at Georgian Bay Secondary School on Monday where the
teens attended.
Students were expected to write exams this week, but the tests have been
postponed.
The boys were returning from a hockey tournament that had been cancelled by bad
weather at the time of the accident.
Police say speed and road conditions were factors in the collision. Some of the
teens were not wearing seatbelts.
The 60-year-old driver of the van suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
