June 20, 2007

Today, Director of Recreation for the Town of The Blue Mountains, Shawn Everitt, announced that the 2007 Training Camp for NHL Referees and Linesmen will be hosted by the Town of The Blue Mountains at the Beaver Valley Community Centre.

On September 10th , 33 NHL Referees and 34 NHL Linesmen, along with the 6 NHL contracted Minor League Referees, will arrive in the Town of The Blue Mountains for a 4 day Training Camp.  The Camp will include skating drills, a round robin hockey tournament, team building and in-class sessions.  The team building program is currently being developed and may include a mountain bike challenge, dragon boat racing and orienteering.

Shawn Everitt stated, “The Town of The Blue Mountains is very excited to announce that the Beaver Valley Community Centre Arena has been identified as the location for all of the ice sessions as well as some of the classroom sessions for the Training Camp.”

Terry Gregson, Senior Officiating Manager for the National Hockey League stated, "We are trying to make Training Camp more of an all round experience and get the team off to an upbeat and positive start and what better area than this, because of all of the great facilities and activities available for our use.  People like Shawn Everitt have been most accommodating in helping get things organized for the Camp.”

Mayor Ellen Anderson stated, “We are extremely pleased to host this Training Camp.  It will provide us with an opportunity to highlight our community as a world-class destination which can provide the services necessary to host such a high profile event.  On behalf of the Town I would like to extend my thanks to Mr. Gregson and his team for working with the Town to bring the Camp to our Municipality.”

The Training Camp will be open to the public.  The NHL also plans to utilize many local personnel for the Training Camp including sports medicine professionals, local goalies and locker room support staff.

The Town of The Blue Mountains’ corporate mission is to realize the community vision through innovative leadership and strong partnerships.
