WILSON DEMANDS ACTION ON HIGHWAY 26

(Queen's Park) - The re-development of Highway 26 from Stayner to Collingwood would have been completed two years ago had the McGuinty Government not cancelled the project in 2004, says Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson.

During Question Period, Wilson challenged the Minister of Transportation to complete the project this summer.  "Last week, a very popular former teacher was killed, and his wife seriously injured on this very stretch of Highway 26," Wilson said.  "Why over the last three and a half years have you failed to take my advice, the advice of Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Clearview Councils and the advice of our community to complete this highway to improve road safety?"

Wilson then quoted an editorial from the Collingwood Enterprise-Bulletin: "Lots of lip service has been paid to the subject by the McGuinty Liberal Government but it's now time for them to stop kissing up to us with empty promises and put the shovels in the ground.  Public Safety demands nothing less.  Their track record on the subject is abysmal.  The Liberal Government has stalled, delayed, obfuscated and backtracked to the point of absurdity.  Enough is enough."
