League Rugby Arrives in the Georgian Triangle with the Launch of the Georgian Bay Titans Rugby Football Club

Collingwood, ON, 10-04-2007 – League rugby arrived to the Georgian Triangle today with the official launch of the Georgian Bay Titans Rugby Football Club.  The Titans will field five teams in the upcoming summer season and will compete with clubs throughout Central Ontario.  The team is currently recruiting players and volunteers interested in being a part of local rugby history.

Rugby is not new to Georgian Bay – many communities already have flourishing high school rugby programs – however players and fans have not been able to enjoy league play until now.  This year the Titans will field men’s teams in the under-14, under-16, under-18 and under-21 age divisions and will also field a women’s varsity team.

“We are very excited to bring league rugby to the Georgian Triangle,” said club founder and President Roger Tomlinson.  Tomlinson has a long history in rugby and was the driving force behind the revival of the Alliston Timberwolves RFC.

In 2006, Tomlinson helped lead the U16 Timberwolves to an All-Ontario Championship title – a pattern of success he believes will continue with the Titans.  “As a sport, rugby has a long tradition of developing young athletes into valuable members of the community.  The Titans organization is committed to developing fitness, confidence, and discipline within all our young players – attributes that will serve them well both on and off the field,” said Tomlinson.

The Titans will hold an information session on April 20th at Admiral Collingwood Public School starting at 6:30pm, and welcome all players and parents to attend.  Prior rugby experience is not a requirement as the club is dedicated to developing the rugby skills of all interested players.  The team will hold its first indoor practice following the information session.

The club is also looking for volunteers to help with the organization and administration of the club.  Interested parties should contact the club directly or drop by to the information session.
