As Canadians we must stand proud and hold on to our heritage. The Hockey Night theme song is a part of that heritage! Don't let it slip out of our hands!

Hockey just wouldn't be the same without it. I have grown up with the anthem and it a part of hockey's history. I like hockey but will not have much interest in it for long as we have already lost allot of Canadian influence. Was it not the Canadians who started all this? I really feel sold out.

Historic song... can't really understand the change and don't support it.

This theme is a part of our countries great hockey customs, and many great players that grew up with it in Canada.... we don't want to lose it!! It is the intro that phsycs you up before the game!!

The song is part the Canadian social fabric now. It would be a travesty if it is discarded over a commercial rights lawsuit. CBC management should know better than to trifle with hockey fans. For the umpteenth time this year, I ask myself what is the matter with these people?

This is the other Canadian national anthem
# 357:

So if the song is lost in Canada (CBC) because of BOTH sides not being creative in finding a solution, does it now get sold to some American sports channel? Ludicrous. I repeat, that it's BOTH sides that have disheartened and pissed a whole nation off ... Shame!

This is as much the nation's anthem as "O Canada". To try to blackmail the CBC, and thereby the people of Canada, is just simply unpatriotic.

Canada is hockey. I bet u that almost every canadian when asked about hockey nite in canada can start humming the theme, but if you probably asked them to write down the words to the national anthem they'd have difficulties!

There is no way I can forsee there being no other ANTHEM for Hockey Night In Canada than the one that has been playing for the last 40 years. Being an active shareholder in the company (CBC) I do have a say in what happens. If this ANTHEM disappears then there will be nothing but outrage and dissent. CBC will listen to the throng and withdraw their decision or the canadian public will wihdraw their support and dollars from this white elephant for good!!!!
# 338:

I think that it's crazy to even think such a thing....anyone young and old and even non-hockey fans can relate to that song. PLEASE DON'T TAKE IT AWAY!!!

It is the one song, that every Canadian knows. It has been our tradition, and I hope will keep on, so that one day my children will be humming it while walking down the street!!

The hockey night in Canada theme is a part of my past, present and it better damn well be a part of my future. If this is about money, than the CBC should export itself over to America! How dare you even consider stripping Canadians of one of the few recognizable patriotic leanings we have. Unacceptable. KEEP THE THEME!
# 333:

It's a fundamental Canadian Icon. And there's no reason to change it! From www.hockeytheme.com the copyright owner's official website: "The CBC has been offered a new license on terms that are virtually identical to those that have existed for the past decade (the cost to CBC to use the theme is approximately $500.00 for each game broadcast of Hockey Night in Canada). However, the CBC has chosen to move in a new direction."

you can't get rid of the song. it's become so much a part of canadian culture and history. to do away with it would be just wrong

For the $100K per year it will cost to keep the theme...it will cost them more in advertising revenue if we boycott a few broadcasts....think about it CBC

WE ARE CANADIANS! HOCKEY IS OUR SPORT. I personally think that the decision to change the anthem is because of the expansion of the game to other countries. Canada always wants to please everyone else but us. To take away this theme is the same as taking away our National Anthem. If you want to have a different song when the game is being played in the US then do so. But on Saturday night, when the game is broadcasting from Canada, I want to hear that theme loud and proud. Certain things should never change. It is part of our heritage. So to you who want the change, back off, stand up for your country with the rest of us who are proud to be CANADIAN

I'm by no means a huge hockey fan (in comparison to many others), but that song brings me straight back to childhood, when Peter Puck used to be on!! Why change it, when it holds such meaning for so many people?
# 304:

This song is as well known as "O Canada" perhaps even more. We need to save this piece of Canadian History.

Changing the HNIC theme is akin to treason! Whoever had this bright idea, should consider a career change or have one considered for him/her.
