National Ski Academy Student Athletes Return from Successful Swiss Training Camp Collingwood, ON (October 13, 2009) –National Ski Academy (NSA) student athletes, coaches and teachers returned to Collingwood following a highly successful eight week camp in Switzerland. With the ski community buzz about the 2010 Olympics, these aspiring young racers completed an early start to their academic studies and training and conditioning on and off the hill. The NSA, the Home of Ski Racing and Academic Excellence, provided a combined training and academic program under the direction of Jurg Gfeller, the NSA’s Director and his expert coaching and teaching staff. This unique camp is situated in Saas-Fee and Zermatt, Switzerland with world class training environments for optimal SL and GS training. The athletes had the opportunity to train alongside World Cup racers who regularly visit these training sites. In addition to members of the NSA’s Racing and Academic Performance Program, guest athletes and coaches from Craigleith, Devil’s Glen, Osler, Alpine and other local ski clubs joined the NSA team for a spectacular camp. “The NSA European training camp provides student athletes with the ability to develop and practice their racing techniques and follow in the footsteps of world class skiers who train on the same hills,” said Jurg Gfeller, NSA Director. “This year, our student athletes trained beside the Swiss, Sweden, French, Slovenian and Finland teams. We have a great group of talented student athletes who are working extremely heard on their technique and conditioning, and it shows.”
The NSA students return to Collingwood with a sense of self discipline and increased technical performance given the intense demands of the camp. Tannis Boisvert, a first year NSA FIS racer, was clearly impressed with the training camp: “What an exceptional experience it is to be part of a group of people who are so focused, and who love and enjoy ski racing as much as I do. I am so glad that I made the decision to join the NSA, as it is truly an outstanding program for focused athletes. This is way better than any other program in Canada!” In support of the student athletes, the NSA is launching its inaugural Snow Ball Gala on November 21st. at the Village at Blue Mountain. The Gala will provide an opportunity for the local community and ski families to visit with fellow ski enthusiasts and bid on an array of exciting auction items to benefit a good cause. Proceeds will support the NSA’s Resource Development Program targeted to funding the very best facilities for the NSA and Collingwood student athletes.
