Dr.
Brown was born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario. He
graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1998,
where he completed his pre-medical studies and received a
Bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Psychology. During his
undergraduate studies, he was a psychological research
assistant for Dr. Imants Baruss working in the area
consciousness.
As a six time Canadian Windsurfing Champion, he has been a
member of the Canadian Sailing Team, traveling and competing
around the world in the 1990’s. For example, in 1996 he
received a bronze medal at the Canadian Olympic Team Trials,
and attended the Olympics in Atlanta as an alternate. Then,
in 2000, he was part of the Sydney, Australia Olympics,
assisting a member of the US Sailing team. Ian has received
several provincial and national achievement awards. He has
traveled throughout North America, Europe, Japan, the
Caribbean, South America, Australia and South Africa. During
his travels, Ian learned more about different cultures,
health approaches and the powers of the human mind.
His studies in science and consciousness along with his
interests in optimum performance and the powers of the human
mind and body prompted Dr. Brown to apply to the Canadian
College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) (www.ccnm.edu)
where, in 2000, he began his journey into the naturopathic
medical profession. He has spent numerous extra hours
studying and acquiring additional knowledge and skills in a
variety of other (but related) therapies. In addition to the
specialty areas of Naturopathic Medicine, which include
Botanical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (which
includes Acupuncture), Nutrition, Homeopathy, Physical
Medicine and Manipulation, Hydrotherapy and Counseling, he
is also currently a certified Craniosacral Practitioner and
is trained in somatoemotional release and visceral
manipulation through the Upledger Foundation in Florida. Ian
also completed clinical training in Mind/Body Medicine at
the Mind/Body Medical Institute at Harvard Medical School in
2002.
Dr. Brown completed his clinical training and graduated from
the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (www.binm.org)
in June 2005. He has practiced at Friends for Life in
Vancouver, BC (a diamond centre for people with terminal
illness). He has trained with many notable doctors including
Dr. Abram Hoffer, MD, PhD (Victoria, BC), Dr. David Kern ND
(Maui) and Dr. Ronald King MPS, DC (former clinical Director
at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC)).
In January 2006, Dr. Brown has opened a practice at Synergy
Health & Wellness Centre in Collingwood and is now seeing
patients. He continues to study and do research in health,
wellness and consciousness areas and he still enjoys
traveling. However, he and his wife, Cindy, are hooked on
the skiing, windsurfing and other tremendous Collingwood
life opportunities. Dr. Brown is also available for speaking
engagements on a wide variety of topics from sports
performance to health and wellness in personal life or the
workplace."Recently,
Ian has done extra training in BodyTalk which combines the
wisdom of advanced yoga and ayurvedic philosophy, the
insights of modern physics and mathematics, the energy
dynamics of acupuncture, the clinical findings of Applied
Kinesiology, and western medical expertise. It is a simple
and effective form of therapy that allows the body's energy
systems to be re-synchronized so that they can operate as
nature intended. Ian is also available outside regular
