Snow squall watch for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are likely by this evening.
Local snowfall accumulations of 15 cm possible.
Snow squalls, accompanied by blowing snow due to strong winds, have
developed in a cold northerly flow off of Southern Lake Huron and are
affecting the Sarnia - Lambton area. These snow squalls are expected to
persist there through about mid afternoon then gradually shift to affect
regions to the east of Lake Huron, along with regions to the southeast of
Georgian Bay.
The primary concerns with snow squalls are rapidly accumulating snow due
to heavy snow fall, and very low and variable visibilities due to falling
and blowing snow. These factors can result in treacherous travelling
conditions. |

Muskoka to Barrie and the rest of Grey - Bruce.
Local snow amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected with the shifting snow
squalls, with higher amounts possible if the snow squalls remain
stationary for a longer period of time.

Snow squall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow squalls with bursts of heavy snow and blowing snow.
Lake effect snow bands from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are continuing to
produce local heavy snow today.
Local snowfall amounts of near 15 cm are possible over the Collingwood and
Innisfil areas. The snow squalls will remain just west of the city of
Barrie. For the Huron County, London and eastern Lambton county areas,
further local snow amounts of 15 to 25 cm are possible.
London airport has received a total of 29 cm of snow as of 4 AM today. Web
cameras in the London area and a trained spotter report from Lucan last
night have shown very low visibilities to less than 100 metres in the snow
squalls.
The gusty winds especially near the shores of the Great Lakes will likely
cause very low to at times zero visibility in blowing snow in areas
affected by heavy flurries and snow squalls. Motorists travelling in these
regions should be prepared for sudden dangerous winter driving conditions
and allow Plenty of extra time to reach their destination.
The coldest Arctic air of the season flowing over the open waters of Lake
Huron and Georgian Bay continues to generate flurries and snow squalls
today. The snow squalls are expected to come to an end by this evening as
a high pressure ridge moves in from the west.

Snow squall watch for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow squalls overnight and Monday.
Snow squalls are expected to develop quickly overnight in the Grey - Bruce
and Parry Sound - Muskoka regions as much colder air blasts into the
regions in the wake of a sharp Arctic cold front.
Local snowfall amounts of near 15 cm are quite possible in these snow
squalls by Monday morning. In addition strong and gusty westerly winds
will cause near zero visibility in blowing snow overnight.
Indication right now suggest that the winds will shift to more
northwesterly on Monday. As a result, the snow squalls will likely drift
southward into the Barrie, Orillia, Midland, London, Stratford and
Woodstock areas. Local snowfall amounts could reach 25 cm by Tuesday
morning and up to 40 cm are possible if one or more of the snow squalls
become stationary for more than 6 hours. The strong and gusty winds will
likely cause very low to at times zero visibility in blowing snow in areas
affected by heavy flurries and snow squalls. Hazardous winter driving
conditions are expected.

Winds over Southern Ontario have subsided to below warning criteria.
However, moderate to strong northwesterly winds are expected to persist
today with sustained wind speed in the 40 to 60 km/h range and gusts to as
high as 85.
Lake effect snow bands combined with northwesterly winds 40 to 60 km/h

Snow squall watch for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
..SNOW SQUALLS DEVELOPING TODAY AND TUESDAY..
COLD NORTHERLY WINDS HAVE DEVELOPED AS A STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVES
OFF TO THE EAST. THESE WINDS PASSING OVER THE RELATIVELY WARM WATERS OF
Lake Huron AND Georgian Bay WILL GENERATE FLURRIES AT TIMES HEAVY AND SNOW
SQUALLS FOR THE ABOVE REGIONS. LOCAL AMOUNTS OF NEAR 15 TO 25 CENTIMETRES
PER 12 HOURS ARE POSSIBLE. THE SNOW SQUALLS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST INTO
TUESDAY ALTHOUGH THE AFFECTED REGIONS WILL CHANGE AS THE WINDS SHIFT MORE
TO THE NORTHWEST.
The winter storm that passed through Ontario last night is centred near
Montréal this morning and will continue to track east. This storm brought
significant amounts of snow to some areas although the snow has tapered
off in most locales. However as a result of the strong northerly winds

Winter storm watch for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale issued
..Significant amounts of snow and blowing snow possible beginning Sunday..
This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather
conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for
updated statements.
A low pressure system centred over Iowa is tracking east towards the lower
Great Lakes and may intensify into a winter storm as it reaches Western
New York state by Sunday night.
An expanding area of snow is expected to move into Southern Ontario first
thing Sunday morning as the low gets closer and deepens. As a result the
snow may become heavy at times..With amounts of 15 to 20 cm quite possible
by Sunday night.
The snow may mix briefly with rain over southern parts of the watch area
extending from Stratford across Kitchener-Waterloo to Newmarket and
Peterborough. There is also a possibility of ice pellets and freezing rain
especially in the Ottawa Valley. However the precipitation should change
to all snow by Sunday night as much colder Arctic air begins to blast in
from the north causing the mercury to plummet.
Strong northerly winds developing Sunday night in the wake of the storm
centre will also result in local blowing snow especially over western and
northern sections.
Travelling conditions are expected to quickly deteriorate Sunday as the
snow moves in. Hazardous winter driving conditions are likely due to low
visibility in heavy snow..Blowing snow..And from accumulating snow.
There is still some uncertainty as to the exact track of this deepening
low pressure centre..Which would influence the location of the heaviest
snow.
Environment Canada continues to closely monitor this threatening winter
storm and will issue warnings and/or adjust this watch as necessary. |

Snow squall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Radar continues to show flurries and snow squalls off Lake Huron and
Georgian Bay. The squalls from Lake Huron are multi-banded in nature with
a more intense and organized band extending from Goderich to just north of
London. Radar and weather observers have indicated total snowfall near one
and a half metres has fallen over northwestern and southwestern sections
of London. The squalls are expected to be slightly less organized than
recent days before gradually weakening tonight.
Another intense squall extends from the southern tip of Georgian Bay
towards the city of Barrie with snowfall rate of 5 to 8 cm per hour
possible. It will likely meander and weaken slightly throughout the day.
Brisk and cold northwest winds blowing over the relatively warmer waters
of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay continues to generate snow squalls with
bursts of heavy snow and local whiteout conditions today and tonight. A
significant issue in all areas will be zero visibilities in whiteout
conditions from blowing snow due to the northwesterly winds gusting to 50
km/h.
Motorists should note that dangerous winter driving conditions from
whiteout conditions will suddenly develop from bursts of heavy snow and
blowing snow. Quickly accumulating snow will also be a significant
hazard...Which is making some highways virtually impassable to the
southeast of Lake Huron due to the longevity of the snow squalls resulting
in excessive snow depths. Highway 4 between lucan and Exeter and sections
of highway 21 along the Lake Huron shoreline remain closed.
The lake effect flurries and snow squalls are expected to persist through
tonight in this long-lived event. Conditions should improve significantly
on Thursday with the squalls and winds diminishing in strength as a ridge
of high pressure moves in.
Environment Canada continues to closely monitor this situation. |

Snow squall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Radar continues to show flurries and snow squalls off Lake Huron and
Georgian Bay. The squall off Lake Huron extends from Grand Bend to the
London area and should remain fairly stationary until later this afternoon
when it is expected to begin moving northward. Radar and weather observers
have indicated over a metre of snow has fallen over northwestern and
southwestern sections of London as of this morning. Significant blowing
snow especially near the shorelines is likely.
Another intense squall extends from the southern tip of Georgian Bay
towards King City. The snow amount in Beeton (just southwest of Alliston)
has reached 81 cm as of 2 AM. The squall should remain to the west of the
city of Barrie today but it will likely drift into the city from time to
time tonight and Wednesday.
Several remarkable snowfall totals in excess of one metre are expected in
some of the warned regions out of this multi-day squall event.
Strong and cold northwest winds blowing over the relatively warmer waters
of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay is creating snow squalls with bursts of
heavy snow and local whiteout conditions today and Wednesday. A
significant issue in all areas will be zero visibilities in whiteout
conditions from blowing snow due to the northwesterly winds gusting to 50
km/h.
Motorists should note that dangerous winter driving conditions from
whiteout conditions will suddenly develop from bursts of heavy snow and
blowing snow. Quickly accumulating snow will also be a significant

Snow squall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Radar shows flurries and snow squalls are whitening regions south of
Georgian Bay from near Owen Sound to Wasaga Beach and the Midland-Orillia
areas then south southeast to King City. The strongest snow squalls will
dump 15 to 25 cm per 12 hours especially if they get locked in over a
particular locale for a while. A report of near 30 centimetres in Beeton
was received earlier this morning as well as 30 centimetres in schomberg.
There have also been several reports of near zero visibility as well as
snowfall rates of several centimetres per hour.
As well..An area southeast of Lake Huron from near Point Clark to Lambton
shores southeastwards through London to Elgin county and Lake Erie is
being turned into a winter Wonderland by flurries and snow squalls. The
snow squalls may dump 15 to 30 cm of snow per 12 hours onto Middlesex and
eastern parts of Lambton county..Including London and Strathroy..Today
into Tuesday. If a strong snow squall locks in over a particular locale
for a while..Local accumulations of 60 cm or more by Tuesday morning are
quite possible.
Strong and cold northwest winds blowing over the relatively warmer waters
of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay will result in snow squalls with bursts of
heavy snow and local whiteout conditions today and into Tuesday. A
significant issue in all areas will be zero visibilities in whiteout
conditions from blowing snow thanks to the northwesterly winds gusting to
60 km/h.
Motorists should note that dangerous winter driving conditions from
whiteout conditions can and suddenly will develop from bursts of heavy
snow and blowing snow. Quickly accumulating snow will also be a
significant hazard...Which may make some highways virtually impassible to
the southeast of Lake Huron due to the longevity of the snow squalls which
may result in excessive snow depths.
The lake effect flurries and snow squalls may persist into Wednesday in
this long-lived event.

Local snow amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected by late Sunday. Higher
amounts are possible if the squalls remain stationary for a significant

zero.

Snow squall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Flurries and snow squalls are developing as expected in a stiff westerly
flow of much colder Arctic air over the relatively warm waters of the
Great Lakes.
Weather radar shows intensifying snowsqualls this afternoon over the Bruce
Peninsula north of Owen Sound to Southampton and in areas east of Georgian
Bay from about lake Muskoka and northward.
Snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm per 12 hours are quite likely in the
heaviest snowsqualls along with whiteout conditions from bursts of heavy
snow and local blowing snow.
The snow squalls will start to drift southward into Simcoe county and
Huron-Perth later tonight as winds veer into the northwest. They are
expected to start affecting the city of Barrie overnight and may continue
to affect these regions for much of Saturday.
The lake effect snow machine is kicking into high gear for tonight and
likely into Saturday in areas southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
These are the first significant snow squalls of the season.
Motorists should exercise extreme caution if driving into the affected
regions. Dangerous winter driving conditions with sudden whiteout
conditions from bursts of heavy snow and blowing snow likely.
Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation and issue
additional warnings should the need arise. |

Snow squall watch for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale issued
Snow squall watch
Conditions will become favourable for snow squall development across
Northern Lake Huron and Georgian Bay early this morning and then across
southern portions of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay late this afternoon.
In advance of an approaching cold front from the northwest, conditions
will become favourable for the development of snow squall bands oriented
from west to east across Northern Lake Huron and Georgian Bay beginning
early this morning and ending this afternoon.
A snow squall band has developed over Central Georgian Bay and will move
from just north of Parry Sound south to south bay early this morning. 10
to 15 centimetres of snow and visibilities near zero are expected this.
Although some uncertainty remains regarding the movement and duration of
the snow squall bands, it appears at this time that the northern portion
of the Bruce Peninsula may be affected, with total snowfall amounts up to
10 centimetres possible.
In the wake of the cold front late this afternoon, winds will shift to the
northwest and it appears more certain that snow squalls, oriented from
northwest to southeast, will develop. Regions affected under this scenario
would be those to the south end of Georgian Bay, including Wasaga Beach
through Owen Sound, and the area along the Lake Huron shore from about
Port Elgin south to about Grand Bend. Additionally, some of the squalls
could penetrate well inland to affect such localities as Orangeville and
Alliston to the Lee of Georgian Bay, and London and St Thomas to the Lee
of Lake Huron. At this time, it appears that these squalls, beginning late
in the day today, could persist into Tuesday morning. Local snowfall
amounts under the more intense snow squalls could well exceed 15
centimetres.
Localized very low visibilities in snow and blowing snow along with rapid
snowfall accumulation are the primary hazards associated with snow
squalls. |

Snow squall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow squalls will continue today.
Snow squalls continue to affect regions to the Lee of Lake Huron and
Georgian Bay.
Weather radar indicates snow squalls are crossing the Bruce Peninsula and
Georgian Bay and affecting areas from Parry Sound to Midland. The squalls
are expected to shift southward out of the Parry Sound region this
morning, the Muskoka region by mid day and continue to affect Simcoe, grey
and Bruce counties into this evening.
Local snowfall amounts of 15 centimetres in 12 hours are quite possible in
these snow squalls. Very low visibilities of a couple hundred metres or
less from bursts of heavy snow may also be an issue in these snow squalls.
Generally, total snow amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres with locally higher
amounts up to 30 centimetres are possible.
Motorists should be prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions from
accumulating snow and possibly nil visibility in bursts of heavy snow or
local blowing snow. |

in these snowsqualls especially tonight. Very low visibility of a couple
hundred metres or less from bursts of heavy snow may also be an issue in
these snow squalls.

Huron and Georgian Bay. These are extending unusually far inland across
Bancroft to Franktown and griffith. Zero visibilities in whiteout
conditions from bursts of heavy snow and blowing snow are associated. Snow
squalls are expected to be particularly severe and persistent from the

Gravenhurst areas..And from Parry Sound to Huntsville..Where up to 80
centimetres of snow are expected locally by late today. Further inland
across Bancroft to Franktown local accumulations of 15 to 20 centimetres

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or
occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated

..Winter storm warning..
An intense low pressure system currently centred near Lake Michigan
continues to bring much precipitation to parts of Ontario today.
Snow associated with this system has fallen over Southern Ontario except
in the national Capital region where it will soon start this morning. Snow
has now changed to rain in Extreme Southwestern Ontario. The changeover
from snow to rain will spread eastward throughout the day and into the
evening hours for most areas. Rain will change back to snow sometime this
evening.
Additional snow amounts will range from a trace to 5 centimetres for the
greater Toronto area and vicinity..5 to 10 centimetres for areas to
north..And near 15 centimetres towards the Ottawa Valley by this evening.
Strong easterly winds up to 60 km/h will accompany the snow today
significantly lowering visibilities in blowing snow. Periods of heavy snow
are also likely.

up to 90 will follow tonight.
..Wind warning..
Very strong winds will develop tonight along the north shore of the lower
Great Lakes in association with the winter storm that is sweeping through
portions of the province today. Southwesterly becoming westerly winds of
60 km/h gusting to 90 are expected for these regions.
This wind warning includes only the areas along the Lake Erie

overnight and intensify on Thursday.
The exact locations and snowfall amounts are still uncertain at present.
Generally local amounts of 15 centimetres or more in snow squalls may be
expected by Thursday evening. In addition the accompanying strong westerly
winds will cause blowing snow and reduce visibilities to near zero.
Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution and allow extra travel time.
Snow squalls may persist for the next couple of days in some regions
before they weaken.

Frost expected tonight.
This is a warning that at or near zero ground temperatures will cause

A much cooler air mass from the Arctic has moved into southern Ontario
today in the wake of a cold front that passed through overnight.
As winds diminish this evening under clearing skies, conditions will
become ideal for frost to develop overnight across much of southern
Ontario. Temperatures inland from the Great Lakes will drop a couple of
degrees below the freezing mark. Throughout the greater Toronto area,
temperatures are expected to be milder, however there is still a risk of
frost.
Preparations should be made to protect or bring inside tender plants if

Snowfall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Heavy snowfall on the way.
A significant low pressure area currently tracking across northeastern
Ohio will pass just south of the lower lakes today. Wet snow associated
with the low has enveloped the extreme southwest through the Dundalk
Highlands into southern Georgian Bay. It will continue throughout much of
the day for many regions. General snowfall amounts of 15 centimetres are
forecast by tonight with locally slightly higher amounts possible over the
Dundalk Highlands and portions of the Oak Ridges moraine to the northwest
of Toronto.
The snow will taper off to a few flurries tonight with the exception being
areas to the south-southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay where flurries
and localized snowsqualls are expected. Several more centimetres of snow
are likely in some of these areas. A snow squall warning is not out of the
question for some snow belt locales, but seems somewhat unlikely as the
squalls are not expected to be particularly intense.
Some blowing snow is also expected in many regions - mainly tonight as the
mercury dips below the freezing mark.
Travel may be difficult due to accumulating snow and some blowing and
drifting. |

Potential for appreciable snowfall tonight with a threat of significant
freezing rain.
This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather
conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for
updated statements.
Another Texas disturbance is bearing down on southern Ontario, quick on
the heels of Saturday's soggy conditions. It is centred over northeastern
Kansas this morning and is scheduled to cross the lower Great Lakes
tonight. Rain will quickly envelop southern Ontario again today beginning
early this morning in the southwest and reaching the Golden Horseshoe to
Georgian Bay regions by evening. A rainfall warning has been issued for
Windsor due to the saturated ground from yesterday's soaking rain. The
warning may be extended as the situation unfolds.
Meanwhile an Arctic cold front slumping southwards from central Ontario
today will reach Georgian Bay and eastern Ontario this evening. Any
precipitation that falls to the north of this front will be primarily snow
and ice pellets. Snowfall accumulations in excess of 10 centimetres are
likely in some regions. There is also a strong likelihood of a significant
swath of freezing rain extending roughly from the Dundalk Highlands to the
northeast of Toronto to Kingston. Appreciable ice accumulation of 5 or
more millimetres is possible. Strong east winds will also develop which
may result in some power outages as some falling tree limbs come in
contact with hydro lines. The precipitation will wind down late tonight in
the west and Monday morning farther east.
An upgrade to freezing rain or snowfall warnings are quite possible later
today as details of this wintery weather are fine tuned. |

Ontario. Currently the precipitation stretches from Georgian Bay south to
western Lake Ontario moving steadily eastward. Freezing surface
temperatures will produce freezing rain at the onset of the precipitation.
Some areas will quickly change to rain such as in Barrie and Peterborough
however the freezing rain could be moderate to heavy. Areas east of
Georgian Bay and most of eastern Ontario will see several hours of
freezing rain possibly with ice pellets this morning or early this

band is expected to weaken and move into Parry Sound and vicinity this
evening where further snow squall warnings may be issued.
Over regions extending from Windsor and Chatham to London winds combined
with a cold Arctic air mass have produced wind chill values near minus 30
early this morning. The extreme wind chill values will ease off late this
morning as temperatures rise...However it will reach near minus 30 again

Wind warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale issued
Very strong and gusty winds developing this morning.
..A low pressure system is centred over Sault Ste Marie..
..Rainfall warning..A strong southerly wind flow associated with the low
pressure system has transported extensive moisture and rain to most of
southern Ontario. The rain..With local thunderstorm activity
associated..Will finally end from west to east this morning. The regions
extending from Lake Huron through Muskoka and towards the northern parts
of the Ottawa Valley are forecast to receive between 30 and 70 millimetres

continue until later this morning..Further contributing to the existing
snow pack melt and compounding drainage and runoff concerns.
..Wind warning..The rain and relatively warm temperatures will come to an
abrupt end today with the passage of a cold front. This front will be
followed by very strong and gusty west to southwest winds. The cold front
went through Windsor at 5 AM and the airport reported sustained winds of
61 km/h and a wind gust to 104 km/h. Similar conditions are expected for
all of southern Ontario as the cold front makes its way east. Thus the

..Significant rain starting late tonight and ending Sunday morning..
Freezing rain warning..A weak disturbance is spreading an area of patchy
freezing rain and ice pellets into southwestern Ontario this morning. The
precipitation is expected to be intermittent and generally light..However
will be appreciable enough in some locales to cause some ice buildup on
untreated roads and surfaces. The precipitation will end this afternoon
around the same time that the temperatures in the area are expected to
rise above the freezing mark thus ending the threat. Travellers are
advised to exercise extreme caution.
Rainfall warning..A more significant weather system is developing over
Colorado that will bring widespread rain to much of southern Ontario
beginning tonight as it tracks northeastward. Current indications suggest
that the warned regions will receive 25 to 50 millimetres of rain by
Saturday evening followed by an additional 10 millimetres by Sunday
morning. While current temperatures throughout the regions are well below
freezing..Temperatures will gradually rise through the day today and

Snow squalls developing this afternoon then intensifying this evening..
This is a warning that snowsqualls are imminent or occurring in these

Bitterly cold Arctic air making its way across Lake Huron and Georgian Bay
today will generate lake effect snow squalls. The squalls will be
disorganized and distribute scattered flurries through the afternoon with
generally light amounts. However early this evening the snow squalls will
become intense especially in the vicinity of Wiarton and into Parry Sound.
The main squall bands will cause reduced visibilities to near zero and
local snowfall accumulations to 15 centimetres tonight. The main snow
squall bands will gradually move northward overnight to become more east
to west in orientation. This may reduce the impact to Barrie - Orillia
areas. Travel may be difficult in the warned regions into Saturday morning

regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
A persistent low pressure system anchored over southwestern Québec
continues to give a general light snowfall across much of ski country.
Some added moisture from Georgian Bay is enhancing the snow to the
southeast of Georgian Bay with a marginal but persistent snow squall
extending southeast from Wasaga Beach to just north of Barrie as indicated
on radar. This is a very narrow weak band and is only affecting a few
locales in its path with locally lower visibility to near 500 metres.
A further accumulation of 10 to possibly 15 centimetres is expected
tonight within this band although it will be highly localized. It should
also begin to slowly shift northward throughout the night. Although it
will be rather variable in its intensity..It is not expected to become a
particularly significant squall.
A more robust snow squall is expected to develop Thursday evening to the
east of Georgian Bay as westerly winds affect the Parry Sound district
with heavier flurries and local snow squalls ahead of another disturbance
approaching from the west. |

Snowsquall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Another significant snow squall event is starting to develop this morning.
This is a warning that snowsqualls are imminent or occurring in these
regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
An Alberta clipper over southwestern Ontario will cross eastern Lake Erie
this morning. Periods of snow have tapered to flurries most areas except
Niagara regions this morning. Toronto Pearson received 7 centimetres and
Buttonville 8 by early this morning.
A much more significant snowfall event is on tap behind the clipper today
through Friday. Some of the coldest air of the season thus far will surge
into southern Ontario beginning this morning and become well entrenched on
Friday. Very unstable air combined with the relatively warm waters of the
Great Lakes will produce abundant snow squalls. These squalls will become
particularly robust tonight and Friday. Several significant snow squalls
are likely to affect the Bruce Peninsula to Collingwood later today as
well as downwind locales to their south. Accumulations in excess of 15
centimetres are likely tonight.
A more monumental band is quite possible near the eastern shore of Lake
Huron extending across Grand Bend or Sarnia and south from there.
Significant snowfall amounts in excess of 30 centimetres appear likely
tonight into Friday especially in communities such as Strathroy, colossal
snowfall totals in excess of 50 centimetres are possible out of this event
by the time it weakens on Saturday.
There is some indication that the very strong snow squall may drift east
and affect the forest city of London later on Friday.
Motorists should be prepared for dangerous winter driving conditions due
to sudden zero visibility and whiteout conditions in bursts of very heavy
snow. |

Snowsquall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow squalls will continue today.
This is a warning that snowsqualls are imminent or occurring in these
regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
An intense east coast storm which affected regions east of Lake Ontario
has moved into southeastern Québec this morning.
Snow associated with this system will taper to a few flurries this morning
leaving snowfall amounts between 10 to 15 cm.
Strong northwest winds of 50 gusting up to 70 km/h in combination with
snow and blowing snow will create hazardous driving conditions early this
morning.
Farther west..Strong cold northwest winds blowing over the relatively warm
waters of the Great Lakes set up significant snow squalls.
At 3:45 AM radar shows two main bands. One stretching from near Grand Bend
to London and St Thomas. The other from southern Georgian Bay though
Barrie to Newmarket.
Snowfall amounts in the squalls will locally reach 15 centimetres by this
morning with similar accumulations possible during the day. Amounts may be
somewhat less in the Newmarket area..Closer to 5 to 10 cm. Strong
northwest winds of 30 gusting 50 km/h will cause local whiteout conditions
in squalls. As a result driving conditions will become quite hazardous due
to very low visibilities and icy roads. |

A ridge of high pressure over central Ontario has brought cool generally
clear skies across parts of the lower Great Lakes. As a result..Frost is
expected over the above regions early this morning with the mercury
hovering close to the freezing mark in many areas.
Tender plants outdoors should generally be protected from frost.
Somewhat milder conditions this coming night should minimize the risk of
frost. Thus this warning will be ended once the threat of frost passes

..Major winter storm affecting southern Ontario..
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or
occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated
statements.
The winter storm which is affecting most of southern Ontario is now
centred over Pennsylvania. This storm will continue to push northwards
towards the St Lawrence Valley tonight giving significant snow amounts to
most of southern Ontario. The first shot of snow began Friday morning over
areas north of the lower Great Lakes and last evening across eastern
Ontario and ski country. The second round of heavy snowfall associated
with this storm began this morning. The heavy snow will gradually taper
off from west to east tonight.
Storm totals will likely be near 25 centimetres along and east of a line
from London to lake Simcoe then to Petawawa. There is potential for 40 to
50 centimetres of snow over eastern Ontario including Ottawa by the time
this storm system moves out. Areas west of the London to Petawawa line
should see between 10 and 20 centimetres with lesser amounts near Lake
Huron and Georgian Bay. Regions located near the St Lawrence Valley will
see ice pellets and a risk of freezing rain mixed with the snow this
evening.
Strong northerly winds with gusts up to 70 km/h are accompanying this
storm. The strong winds combined with fresh snow is causing blowing snow
and whiteout conditions thereby creating dangerous driving conditions. The
winds will slowly diminish in strength tonight.
Travellers should be prepared to change their plans accordingly. Areas
north of Lake Ontario and into the St Lawrence Valley should not be
surprised by the occurrence of some thunder and lightning as this vigorous
low passes by tonight.

A storm is currently over North Carolina this morning and will push
northward today giving significant snow to most of southern Ontario. The
first round began Friday morning over areas north of the lower Great Lakes
and last evening across eastern Ontario and ski country. The Niagara
Peninsula and Ottawa have already received about 17 centimetres as of 4
AM. Snow has become light and more intermittent this morning. The heaviest
snowfall is expected in the second round beginning this afternoon in the
southwest and this evening over eastern Ontario. Keep in mind that the
snowfall duration will be about 36 hours but the heaviest snow will be
this afternoon into this evening.
Storm totals will likely be 30 to 40 centimetres along and east of a line
from St Thomas to Barrie then to Petawawa. There is potential for 40 to 50
centimetres of snow over the Niagara Peninsula and parts of Haliburton
Highlands into Pembroke. Areas west of the St Thomas to Petawawa line
should see between 10 to 20 centimetres with lesser amounts near Lake
Huron and Georgian Bay. With the warm front just to the south of the St
Lawrence Valley these regions may expect ice pellets and a risk of
freezing rain this afternoon. Behind this system strong northerly winds to
70 km/h are likely. Strong winds combined with fresh snow will cause
blowing snow and local whiteout conditions creating dangerous driving
conditions. Blowing snow will be the main concern for areas from Windsor
to Sarnia to Owen Sound and hence a blowing snow warning is in effect for
these areas.
Travellers should be prepared to change their plans accordingly. Areas
north of Lake Ontario and into the St Lawrence Valley should not be
surprised by the occurrence of some thunder and lightning as this vigorous

Snowsquall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale issued
..Snowsqualls expected tonight..
This is a warning that snowsqualls are imminent or occurring in these
regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.
Cold Arctic air continues to blast into southern Ontario today in the wake
of a cold front that moved through last evening. Strong winds ushering in
this air mass will once again cause a number of winter severe weather
problems across parts of southern Ontario today and tonight.
Wind warning.
Brisk southwesterly winds in the wake of last weekends winter storm with
sustained winds of 60 km/h with a few gusts to 90 km/h will continue to
occur in the regions near the east end of Lake Erie and in the exposed
southern parts of Prince Edward county. Winds will slowly start to
diminish beginning this afternoon.
These winds will be strong enough to cause minor damage to trees and
buildings as well as toss loose items about. Extra caution is also advised
for motorists as the strong winds may make driving rather difficult.
Blowing snow warning.
A blowing snow warning is in effect for the Picton - Sandbanks Park region
which is receiving some lake effect flurries off of Lake Ontario. Blowing
snow will result in nil visibility in whiteout conditions at times today
along with dangerous winter driving conditions as a result.
Snowsquall warning.
In the Grey - Bruce and Barrie - Orillia - Midland regions flurries heavy
at times today will become better organized into a few snowsqualls this
evening as a trough of low pressure moves in from the northwest. Local
snowfall amounts near 15 cm are likely in the snowsqualls tonight.
Motorists in these regions should be prepared for sudden nil visibility in
whiteout conditions from bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow
beginning this evening. Hazardous winter driving conditions are expected. |

will March across southern Ontario today reaching eastern Ontario this
afternoon.
The freezing rain will begin in southwestern Ontario early this morning
and Progress eastward reaching the greater Toronto area late this morning.
In eastern Ontario precipitation will begin as a brief period of snow
before switching to freezing rain. The freezing rain should reach the
Ottawa area this afternoon.
Current indications show that between 2 and 4 millimetres of freezing rain
will fall over a 2 to 3 hour period before the change over to rain occurs.
However there are indications that the freezing rain may persist longer -
up to 6 hours - over portions of the Ottawa Valley. |

9:59 PM EST Wednesday 6 February 2008
Snowfall warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow heavy at times expected this evening for much of southcentral Ontario
with 15 to 20 centimetres accumulation likely by Thursday morning.
A major winter storm producing very heavy snow with lingering freezing
rain and ice pellets is now pounding southern Ontario as advertised.
The deepening low pressure system responsible for this major winter storm
is over northwestern Indiana and will move northeast near a line from
Windsor to Niagara to eastern Lake Ontario by Thursday morning. A large
area of moderate to heavy snow extends all the way back to Lake Michigan
from this storm this evening. There have also been reports of thunder and
lightning across parts of southern Ontario into the greater Toronto area
as well.
Freezing rain and ice pellets continue to fall from London and St Thomas
in the west to Hamilton and Niagara in the east where the freezing rain
warning remains in effect. This freezing precipitation will change over to
snow heavy at times this evening as the storm centre passes by and colder
air moves in from the north. Hence total snowfall amounts in these areas
will be reduced from those further north with 5-10 centimetres likely near
Lake Erie by morning and 10-15 centimetres likely in the London to
Hamilton areas. Ice accretions of a few millimetres have been reported in
this area by trained weather spotters.
The northern reaches of this winter storm will experience snowfalls of 15
to 20 centimetres which is below the 25 centimetres criterion for winter
storm warning but meets the criterion for snowfall warning.
This storm will produce snowfall rates as high as 5 centimetres per hour
with near zero visibilities especially during the evening hours. The area
of heavy snow will very gradually weaken as it moves eastward and the low
pressure system starts to lose some of its steam giving eastern portions
of the province slightly lesser amounts.
The highest snowfall from this system is expected to fall over the
Goderich to Palmerston to Orangeville to Newmarket areas tonight with
upwards of 30 centimetres possible there by Thursday morning. Elsewhere in
the path of this wave of precipitation a general 15 to 25 centimetres of
snow is likely.
Motorists are very strongly encouraged to drive extremely carefully as
dangerous winter driving conditions from zero visibility in whiteout
conditions from bursts of very heavy snow and local blowing snow continue.
Travelling should be delayed if at all possible until after the storm ends
overnight. |

Winter storm warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
Snow heavy at times is expected across all of southern and eastern Ontario
with a possibility of freezing rain and ice pellets along lakes Erie and
Ontario.
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or
occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated
statements.
A low pressure area over southern Indiana is moving northeastward and
setting its sights on southern Ontario. As the low moves northeast it is
expected to convert a lot of moisture from the gulf of Mexico into snow
and deposit it over southern Ontario. The resultant snow will begin to
accumulate over a corridor from Windsor to Toronto early this morning and
spread eastward by noon into the remaining warned regions.
Latest indications show the potential for significant amounts of snow from
this deepening low as it tracks northeast just south of lakes Erie and
Ontario towards New England by Saturday. This type of winter storm often
has a swath of 15 to 30 centimetres of heavy snow associated with it.
Freezing rain and ice pellets will also be a problem as the storm centre
gets close to the lower Great Lakes. The duration of ice pellets or
freezing rain could significantly lower snowfall amounts especially near
lakes Erie and Ontario however the result could be significant icing on
surfaces.
Latest analyses suggest the heaviest snow swath may extend from Lake St
Clair northeast across the London Kitchener and Golden Horseshoe areas
into eastern Ontario including the national Capital region. Storm total
snowfall amounts from a corridor from Bancroft to Ottawa could near 30
centimetres. The corridor from Barrie to Petawawa will see precipitation
mainly fall as snow with amounts near 25 centimetres. Ice pellets and
freezing rain may also be an issue to contend with generally in regions
near and southeast of highway 401.
Exact snowfall amounts and the location of ice pellets and freezing rain
will depend upon the exact track of this developing storm. It is also
possible if the storm centre tracks further north than expected that there
could be a changeover to rain especially in areas near eastern Lake Erie
and over Prince Edward county including Kingston.
There is a possibility of reduced visibilities due to blowing snow
especially this afternoon and through the evening.
This storm has the potential to be quite significant and have high impact
especially if heavy snow develops.

Winter storm watch for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale issued
A period of freezing rain is possible tonight.
This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather
conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for

A powerful winter storm developing over the Prairies is moving eastwards
towards Ontario. As the warm front from the system sweeps across southern
Ontario tonight temperatures are expected to rise above the freezing mark.
As a result most of the precipitation from this system will fall as rain
over southern Ontario. However as it will take some time for the cold air
to be flushed out it is possible for the above regions to experience 2 to
4 hours of freezing rain late tonight before the temperatures rise to be
above the freezing mark.
At this point in time there is still some uncertainty as to where the
freezing rain will fall and for how long. When the situation becomes more
certain freezing rain warnings will be issued where required. Stay tuned

Winter storm warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale continued
A crippling Major winter storm with heavy snow and blowing snow as well as
some ice pellets is moving in right on schedule this morning.
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or
occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated
statements.
A massive winter storm has begun over southern Ontario and the stage is
set for this dangerous storm to kick into high gear over the entire
forecast district today with near record snowfall amounts.
Latest analyses show a rapidly deepening low pressure centre now over
northern Ohio just southwest of Cleveland this morning. This low is
preceeded by an expanding area of heavy snow with some freezing rain and
ice pellets having mixed in at times as far north as the Windsor London
Kitchener and Toronto areas.
There have been several reports from the OPP of freezing rain and low to
almost nil visibility in heavy snow over southern Ontario earlier this
morning.
This intensifying winter storm centre will move towards Lake Erie then
northeast across western and then northern New York state to New England
by this evening. This storm track is placing southern and eastern Ontario
directly under the brunt of heavy snow. A few claps of thunder along with
bursts of very heavy snow are also likely and have already been reported
over southeastern Michigan and possibly southwestern Ontario early this
morning.
The main snow event has moved into southwestern Ontario now and will
rapidly expand and envelop all regions east to Ottawa this morning.
Copious amounts of snow as well as strong winds causing blowing snow are
expected. The snow will be mixed at times with ice pellets and freezing
rain along and south of a line from grand through the greater Toronto area
to Kingston and then along the St Lawrence river Valley to Cornwall.
Widespread snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected in most
areas by this evening. Some local amounts of 40 to 50 cm or more are quite
likely in a few areas..Especially from the west end of Lake Ontario and
eastwards into far eastern Ontario. Snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm an hour
are expected with low to nil visibility in sustained bursts of heavy snow
likely.
Significant blowing snow is expected to accompany the heavy snow due to
strong northeast winds gusting to 70 km/h whipping up the freshly fallen
snow and causing whiteout conditions.
This is a dangerous winter storm. It is strongly recommended to avoid
unnecessary travel during this storm. This massive snow storm has the
potential to cause paralyzing conditions as road travel on any unplowed
streets becomes next to impossible today. All motorists who must travel
are urgently advised to use extreme caution and plan for much extra time
to reach their destination.
There remains a high degree of certainty with this storm as the the latest
computer model and observed trends continue to forecast this potential
record setting winter storm.
The storm is expected to move out over southern Ontario by this evening
with the heavy snow moving out of eastern Ontario by Monday morning as the
storm centre moves away over New England into the Maritimes. However
snowsqualls may form tonight to the Lee of Lake Huron resulting in a
continuation of locally dangerous winter travelling conditions throughout
the night. |

Winter storm warning for
Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale upgraded from winter storm watch
A near-crippling snow storm with heavy snow and blowing snow as well as
some ice pellets tonight and Sunday.
This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or
occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated
statements.
A massive winter storm is about to strike much of southern and eastern
Ontario with near record snowfall amounts. Latest analyses indicates that
the developing low pressure system is moving into western tennesee
preceeded by a burgeoning area of moderate snow with some freezing
precipitation extending north to Lake Erie.
The low will move northeast towards the lower Great Lakes and intensify
rapidly as it reaches Ohio Sunday morning then track across New York state
into New England Sunday night. This storm track will place much of
southern and eastern Ontario directly under the brunt of heavy snow. A few
claps of thunder along with bursts of very heavy snow are also likely.
Patchy areas of snow have affected portions of southern Ontario today as
well as a lake snow band meandering across Toronto. There is a chance that
this band may intensify this evening over Toronto giving locally 5 cm or
more. The brunt of the main snow event will begin this evening in the
southwest and rapidly envelop all regions east to Ottawa in the overnight
hours. Copious amounts of snow as well as strong winds causing blowing
snow are expected. Freezing rain is also possible near Lake Erie.
Widespread snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected in most
areas tonight and Sunday. Some local amounts of 40 cm or more are quite
likely in a few areas by Sunday night..Especially from the west end of
Lake Ontario and eastwards into far eastern Ontario.
Significant blowing snow is expected to accompany the heavy snow due to
strong northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h whipping up the freshly fallen
snow and causing whiteout conditions. In addition freezing rain is
possible especially near Lake Erie for a few hours overnight and Sunday
morning as milder air pays a brief visit aloft. Ice pellets are also quite
possible generally along and south of a line from Grand Bend to near
Toronto and east to Cornwall.
The public should be prepared to change plans accordingly to avoid
unnecessary travel during this storm. This massive snow storm has the
potential to cause near-paralyzing conditions as road travel on any
unplowed streets may become next to impossible on Sunday. All motorists
who must travel are urgently advised to use extreme caution and plan for
much extra time to reach their destination.
There is a high degree of certainty with this storm as the concensus of
weather model data is virtually unanimously forecasting this event.
Environment Canada continues to closely monitor this situation. The winter
storm warnings will likely be expanded northeast across the remainder of
the regions this afternoon. |

in the afternoon before changing back to snow tonight. Up to 20
centimetres of total snow mixed with ice pellets have already been
reported over areas close to the Niagara Escarpment.
Regions over eastern Ontario including Ottawa and Gatineau will continue
to see snow today with the heaviest snow falling tonight into Monday
morning. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres are possible by Monday
morning with an additional 10 to 20 by Monday evening.
Dangerous winter travelling conditions are expected across Ontario as the
snow may possibly be heavy at times which can cause brief whiteout
conditions. Furthermore roads will be snow covered and slippery due to
freezing rain and ice pellets. Travel plans should be altered accordingly.
At this point in time there is still uncertainty in the track of the low
into the Great Lakes this afternoon. If the low tracks further north a
higher percentage of the precipitation will fall as rain or possibly
freezing rain. Alternately if the low tracks further south the snowfall
amounts will be higher than currently indicated in the forecast. |
