HEALING THE WORLD - ONE DROP AT A TIME
Newsletter - Volume #2

Summer 2005
I love summer. I love everything about it. Summer is a time for gardening (my most favorite outdoor activity), for gatherings of friends and family picnics, for walks at Sunset Park and for just enjoying those lazy, hazy days of summer. This month’s newsletter I dedicate to summer.
There’s nothing that can spoil a summer soiree faster than outdoor pests. Unless it’s the noxious pest control sprays . For an effective and safe alternative, I use the essential oil blend Purification. Either diffused or applied topically, Purification essential oil is ideal indoors or out. Diffuse in a patio area to keep airborne pests from spoiling your evening, or indoors to ward off those same pests. Its fresh and invigorating scent is a pleasant replacement to harsh chemicals. It is also a great hiking or camping companion. The individual oils in Purification have powerful antiseptic, anti-bacterial and sanitizing properties, so it kills unpleasant odors like cigarette smoke when that soiree moves indoors. A cottage must-have to repel the mice that moved in over the winter, as well as the bugs and insects that follow you in. Add it to your first aid kit for sterilizing, cleansing and soothing wounds or cuts. Included in this blend is pure therapeutic grade citronella (insecticidal), Lemongrass ( for purification), Rosemary (antiseptic and antimicrobial properties), Tea Tree Oil (also antiseptic and antimicrobial ), Lavandin (antiseptic) and Myrtle (for soothing effects on the respiratory system). Purification freshens, deodorizes and purifies the air you breathe. Diffuse or put a couple of drops on a cotton ball and place in your vents at home, in the car, hotel room or office.
Patchouly is also a natural insect repellent and antidote for insect bites. The name evokes the era of the 60s and 70s when it was widely used in perfume and incense. Unlike the perfume of our youth, Young Living essential therapeutic grade Patchouly offers so much more. For centuries Patchouly has been used to fight infection and as an antidote for insect bites. Patchouly is also great after your day in the sun, to cool and tone the skin. It can help prevent wrinkles by tightening loose skin and soothes chapped skin, as well as helping to protect against UV radiation. Patchouly is anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, anti toxic and astringent. To refresh sun stressed skin , try a couple of drops of Patchouly mixed with a little V-6 mixing oil or pure organic Almond oil gently massaged on your body after your bath or shower.

Undoubtedly, one of my most widely used (summer, winter , fall or spring) essential oils is Lemon. It has been called “ the most valuable of all fruits for preserving health”. For many of us, just the color and fragrance of a lemon bring to mind freshness and vitality. Lemon oil is a powerful antiseptic. It can be used for cleaning work surfaces such as your butchers block ,or a drop in the dishwasher not only cleans and disinfects your dishes, but also sends out a wonderful uplifting scent throughout your home. It’s great for removing gum, oil or grease spots and especially good at cleaning dirty hands (for the kids too). In Japan , tests showed a 54% decrease in mental fatigue when lemon oil was diffused into a office area. Lemon oil helps the body face physical and psychological weariness. Lemon oil can work as a stabilizer of the body’s acidity or alkalinity content. Its astringent, antiviral, and antiseptic qualities make lemon oil useful in the home for many reasons, including insect bites, air disinfectant, throat infections, energy, memory improvement and just promoting a sense of well being to name a few. For me, nothing compares to a tall glass of cool water with a couple of drops of Lemon essential oil (do not attempt this if you are purchasing oils of questionable purity) to refresh and invigorate after a long , hard (wonderful) day in the garden.
Now, after your day of fun and frolic in the summer sunshine, you are probably ready for some tender loving care. A combination of oils selected especially for it’s ability to relax, calm and relieve the tension of aching and spasmatic muscles due to sports injury, fatigue or stress is oil blend Aroma Siez. It may also help to relieve a headache. A combination of Basil (anti-inflammatory, antisposmodic - relaxing to spastic muscles that contribute to headaches and migraines), Marjoram (also relaxing and calming to constricting muscles), Lavender (remember the wonder oil from last month’s newsletter??), Peppermint (also one of last month’s favs - anti-inflammatory helps to sooth and cool), and Cypress (anti-infectious, antiseptic, refreshing and relaxing), this wonderful blend was designed to pamper those poor aching muscles. Sorry, we do not currently stock the gentle massaging hands.
At the end of your day, for a peaceful, restful sleep, apply a couple of drops of Peace & Calming essential oil blend to the bottom of your feet , and sweet dreams of tomorrows gardening pleasures.
I could go on , but I invite you to explore and discover your own favorites on my web page. Just click on Young Living on the Collingwood Now web page and follow the links! There you will find the enchanting and powerful benefits of the oils, and the miracles of your own oil story.

Yours in good health,
